As per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the San Diego Padres have placed starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi on the 10-day disabled list with a hip strain and have recalled second baseman Carlos Asuaje from Triple-A El Paso.
Lucchesi, 24, has pitched to a 3.23 earned-run average this season in nine starts, winning three games and losing two.
His 1.225 WHIP, 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings, 2.9 walks per nine innings, and 117 ERA+ have given the organization, as well as the fans, great hope for the future of Lucchesi’s career.
The Padres have days off on Wednesday and Monday, meaning that, in all likelihood, the Padres would only need to skip Lucchesi’s spot in the rotation once before he’s eligible to return from the disabled list.
