Per Matt Eddy of Baseball America, San Diego Padres outfielder Matt Szczur has elected for free agency ahead of the 2019 offseason.
The Padres designated Szczur for assignment on July 1st after appearing in 57 games for San Diego as a reserve outfielder. He hit .187 with a .265 on-base percentage, recording three doubles, one home run, three stolen bases, and eight walks in 75 at-bats.
After clearing waivers, Szczur accepted an assignment to the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas, deciding to play every day in the minors, rather than remaining in a reserve role with another organization.
