The San Diego Padres lost Jackson Merrill to a hamstring strain that will keep him out of the lineup indefinitely. His absence in the lineup left the center field chores to Brandon Lockridge. But he found himself on the injured list with hamstring-related issues.
To combat those injuries, the Padres are adopting the age-old football philosophy of “Next man up.” Tyler Wade was called up to replace Lockridge on the roster and take over the center field duties.
The Friars placed Merrill on the IL on April 7 and are not expected to activate him when he becomes eligible to return on Friday.
