According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, a source close to the San Diego Padres does not feel that there is any structural damage to Lamet’s elbow and that the team’s expectation is that he will miss minimal time.
While his injury puts his Opening Day roster status in heavy doubt, as for right now, it seems that a true crisis has been averted.
Lamet, 25, was set to follow Clayton Richard in the Friars’ rotation to start the year. With him out, Luis Perdomo will likely move into that second spot and the team will be forced to either move Chris Young into the rotation or go with another in-house option.
