San Diego holds on to beat Texas, 5-3

The San Diego Padres needed one big inning on offense to beat the Texas Rangers 5-3 in Peoria, Thursday.

The Padres loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning and Gavin Sheets stepped to the plate with no outs. Sheets, who was added to the 40-man roster earlier in the day after San Diego selected his contract, had an opportunity to impact the game in his first at bat. Unfortunately for Sheets and the Padres, he struck out looking for the first out of the inning.

The next batter was Jason Heyward and the presumptive starting left fielder came through with a triple down the right field line that cleared the bases and gave San Diego a 3-0 lead.
