Former Padres bench coach Dave Roberts is expected to be named the Los Angeles Dodgers’ new manager on Monday, a source confirmed.
Roberts, 43, will be the first minority manager for one of baseball’s most storied franchises. He lands with the same division foe that went 14-5 against the Padres last season, this despite the fact that his former club did not interview him for its own managerial opening. That position later went to Andy Green.
Padres General Manager A.J. Preller was asked earlier this month why Roberts, who also was a finalist for the Seattle Mariners’ manager job, did not receive an interview in his hometown.
