NEW YORK -- For a moment on Wednesday afternoon at Citi Field, Austin Hedges thought he'd hit his fifth home run of the season. A moment later, he didn't. And a moment after that, he was so convinced of the homer that he circled the bases anyway, despite having been ruled out on the play.
Turns out, Hedges was right in the first place.
The Padres' catcher sent a rocket to the center-field fence with one out in the top of the fifth inning. Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo leapt at the wall and appeared to have robbed a certain home run.
