It’s not Jeff Passan so I’m hoping this isn’t correct but Francys Romero is reporting the Padres are out on Roki Sasaki, their number one free agent target this winter.
Hearing from multiple sources that the Padres are out in Roki Sasaki.
They will begin their international signings of Jhoan De La Cruz and Carlos Alvarez in the next few hours.— Francys Romero (@francysromeroFR) January 17, 2025Jhoan De La Cruz and Carlos Alvarez seem to be signings they were going to make before Sasaki became available so at least they’re still getting them but this is a huge blow to the Padres if Romero’s reporting is indeed correct.
