SAN DIEGO -- Could first-year Padres manager Andy Green be close to finalizing his coaching staff?
Scott Miller of Bleacher Report reported Friday night that the Padres are in the "talking stages" with Mark McGwire about joining the staff as bench coach.
McGwire, 52, who spent the last three seasons as the Dodgers' hitting coach, had his contract expire at the end of October. McGwire was hitting coach with the Cardinals for three seasons (2010-12) before joining the Dodgers.
McGwire, a native of Pomona, starred at USC before embarking on a 16-year big league career with the A's and the Cardinals.
