PEORIA, Ariz. -- The San Diego Padres granted Casey Janssen's request and gave the veteran reliever his release Thursday.
The 34-year-old Janssen was in camp as a non-roster player.
Signed on Feb. 20, the right-hander was competing for a roster spot with Kevin Quackenbush, Fernando Rodney, Nick Vincent and Carlos Villanueva. Janssen had a 3.00 ERA in six games this spring.
Janssen went 2-5 with a 4.95 ERA in 48 games for Washington last year. He had started the season on the disabled list.
