The San Diego Padres needed a strong pitching performance from Randy Vasquez if they wanted to have a chance to win the final game of a three-game set against the Athletics in Sacramento, Wednesday.
Vasquez provided exactly what the Padres needed with five strong innings, allowing just one run on one hit with three walks and a strike out. He allowed two of his three walks to start the bottom of the second inning and only one of those came around to score to give the Athletics a 1-0 lead.
San Diego responded in the top of the third inning when Oscar Gonzalez singled to drive in Xander Bogaerts to make the score, 1-1.
