Q&A: Padres reliever Carter Capps

Acquired in the deal that sent Andrew Cashner to Miami, Carter Capps is already throwing from 45 feet out after undergoing Tommy John elbow reconstruction in March. As Padres manager Andy Green has noted, Capps is “ahead of schedule,” and that makes sense – the 26-year-old right-hander has spent more time in the weight room than in the clubhouse since moving his rehab from Miami to San Diego. Between workouts, the Padres’ newest reliever spared a few minutes to discuss the origin of a unique delivery, his rise from back-up high school catcher to major league reliever and the latest trade in his career bio.
