Five times the Padres have entered the final game of a series looking for a sweep. They’ve yet to come through and their work is cut out for them in a bullpen game fronted by Rule-5 right-hander Luis Perdomo.
With scheduled starter James Shields traded away Saturday, the 23-year-old rookie is drawing his second start of the season. His first was a two-inning spot start in Milwaukee last month, an outing in which Perdomo yielded two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in a no-decision.
Perdomo hasn’t pitched since allowing six runs in two innings on May 31, pushing his ERA up to 10.
