Pregame: Jon Jay update, tornado watch

CINCINNATI — Though Jon Jay is out the starting line for a third straight day with a balky wrist/forearm, Padres manager Andy Green said Thursday that the team is not considering a disabled list stint for their leadoff hitter/center fielder.

In fact, Jay might already be on the disabled list if that was a real consideration. Travis Jankowski is getting his third start in a row in Jay’s place.

“It just needs more time,” Green said during pre-game availability. “He’s not ready to go. If we thought it was a DL thing we’d put him on the DL, but we’ll play it day by day and see when he gets to the point when he’s ready to go.
