Pregame: Edwards' UCL has 'wear' on it

The Padres hoped Jon Edwards would emerge as a big bullpen piece this year. They’ll have to wait a bit longer now.

The MRI ordered for Edwards’ ailing right elbow showed wear on his ulnar collateral ligament, Padres manager Andy Green said before Friday’s game. He is preparing for a PRP/stem cell injection and a rehab schedule of about eight to 10 weeks.

The alternative would be season-ending Tommy John surgery, although Green was quick to reiterate that the Padres had not entertained that option.

“We hope that stabilizes his elbow and the hope is he’s able to pitch by the end of the year,” Green said.
