SAN DIEGO -- The Padres spent 2016 getting younger -- nowhere more so than in their outfield.
The Opening Day trio of Melvin Upton Jr., Matt Kemp and Jon Jay gave way to a quartet of rookies by season's end. Alex Dickerson and Travis Jankowski impressed for much of the second half, before prospects Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe got their first taste of the big leagues in September.
Now, the Friars are faced with a bit of a dilemma. Upton and Kemp are out of the equation, having been dealt before last season's Trade Deadline.
