SAN DIEGO -- The D-backs had the matchup they wanted, and Yoshihisa Hirano made the pitch he wanted.
Christian Villanueva walked off anyway.
Pinch-hitting in the ninth inning, Villanueva fought off a Hirano splitter, sending a broken-bat blooper into left field. Travis Jankowski, who had opened the frame with a walk, scampered home with the winning run in the Padres' come-from-behind 7-6 victory on Saturday night.
Lefty starter Clayton Richard was hit hard, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings.
