The Padres have agreed to trade right-handers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea to the Miami Marlins for right-hander Jarred Cosart, first-base prospect Josh Naylor and young arm Luis Castillo, a source confirmed to the Union-Tribune.
Cashner, the Padres' longest-tenured player, and Rea, a rookie, would be the fifth and sixth major leaguers shipped out amid an overt rebuilding effort. Naylor, 19, and Castillo, 23, would be the latest prospects to join a massive influx of talent into the Padres' formerly bereft farm system. Cosart, 26, would join a San Diego rotation that has lost every one of its arms from opening day.
