The Padres on Wednesday said they will provide refunds or exchanges for tickets purchased for all home games scheduled to have taken place by May 31.
The team announced the policy a day after Major League Baseball told its 30 clubs they could develop their own protocols regarding refunds for games not played due to the coronavirus.
MLB and its teams had been criticized for not refunding money until now. The league continues to list lost games as “postponed” rather than “canceled,” which it previously explained meant refunds were not in order.
However, Commissioner Rob Manfred and others have acknowledged there will not be the usual 162-game season even if it is deemed safe to begin the season soon.
