Andy Green is the Padres' choice to be their new manager, and he will be introduced at a Thursday afternoon news conference at Petco Park.
The news was first reported by Bleacher Report, and has been confirmed by MLB.com sources. The Padres have not confirmed the hiring.
Green was the D-backs' third-base coach on Chip Hale's staff this season, and was one of six candidates interviewed as a potential replacement for interim manager Pat Murphy, who led the Padres to a 42-54 record following Bud Black's dismissal.
Green has managerial experience in the Minor Leagues, leading the Rookie-level Missoula Osprey to the Pioneer League championship in 2012 and then winning back-to-back Manager of the Year Awards in the Double-A Southern League in 2013-14 with Mobile.
