The Padres scored five runs before making an out in the fourth inning Monday at Petco Park.
In the process, they ran another Diamondbacks starter from the game early and then rode the bullpen to a 6-2 victory that clinched the teams’ season-opening series.
After Trent Grisham’s 411-foot home run put the Padres up 1-0 in the first inning, the Diamondbacks scored two runs off Joey Lucchesi in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
The first six Padres batters in the fourth reached base, the sixth being Fernando Tatis Jr., whose triple to the gap in left-center field cleared the loaded bases.
