According to Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase, the Padres are adding Elias Díaz on a minor league deal. Díaz was not having a good year with the Rockies and they released him earlier this month.
After being named the All-Star Game MVP in 2023 (14 HR, .725 OPS), Díaz had an OPS+ 11% below league average in 84 games this season. The 33-year-old hit just .169 with no homers and a .431 OPS in his final 22 games in purple.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Díaz is still guaranteed all of his $6 million salary from Colorado.
