Padres settle with Freddy Galvis, avoid arbitration

The Padres have signed newly acquired shortstop Freddie Galvis to a one-year contract for $6.825 million dollars, according to Robert Murray of FanRagSports.com. He had been projected by MLBtraderumors.com to draw $7.4m this season. 2018 is his final year of arbitration eligibility, so he’s due to become a free agent at the end of the season unless the team negotiates an extension with the 28-year-old switch-hitter.

The last time the Padres entered into arbitration with a player was in 2014, when Andrew Cashner insisted on an extra $125k and won his case.
