Chris Paddack was yanked after the first two innings in which he allowed eight runs to the Nationals who took advantage of that early momentum and turned it into 15 total runs on the night. That amount is a season-high allowed by San Diego this season and the Friars’ five runs they managed to score paled in comparison to Washington’s offensive early offensive onslaught.
The Nationals kicked off their 10-run stretch through the first four innings with a three-run homer by All-Star Juan Soto in the opening period. They would go on to score four runs in the second, two runs in the third, and capped it off with a lone run in the fourth.
