Manuel Margot and Nick Margevicius were chatting in the visitors’ clubhouse at Busch Stadium two Fridays ago, the center fielder just chatting with the rookie pitcher.
“When do you start again?” Margot asked after a while.
“In about an hour,” Margevicius replied.
“What?” Margot said.
“Today,” Margevicius said as his teammate looked at him quizzically.
“Oh,” Margot said with an accompanying chuckle. “I didn’t know.”
No one would.
The Padres have two rookies in their starting rotation. Both have sub-2.00 ERAs and sub-1.00 WHIPs through their first three starts and possess a presence on and around the mound to match.
