Padres reunite with Elías Díaz for first MLB free agent signing this offseason

We’ve been waiting for the Padres to sign a big league free agent and their first one of the winter is a reunion with catcher Elías Díaz on a one-year, $3.5 million deal with a mutual option for 2026.

Former All-Star catcher Elías Díaz is in agreement on a one-year /$ 3.5MM deal with the San Diego Padres, sources tell @ElExtrabase.

The deal includes a mutual option for 2026 and is pending a physical.— Daniel Álvarez-Montes (@DanielAlvarezEE) January 28, 2025

Would I have preferred to keep Kyle Higashioka? Yes, but he ended up getting double the money per year from the Rangers and we know San Diego’s dealing with financial limitations so this will just have to do.
