The Padres have come to terms with veteran left-handed reliever Matt Thornton to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training, according to a report by FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. The club has not commented on or confirmed the report.
Thornton, 39, went 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA in 41 1/3 innings over 60 appearances last season with the Nationals. He held left-handed hitters to a .198 average, but he also excelled vs. righties (.229 average).
