SAN FRANCISCO —
As if snapping out of a funk, Chris Paddack showed so much of what makes him among the Padres’ most promising young pitchers.
The Padres offense — with unprecedented help from Paddack and the usual impetus of Fernando Tatis Jr. — did almost enough to escape its general malaise.
Reliever Trey Wingenter let a lead slip away, allowing three runs in the seventh inning in a 6-5 loss to the Giants on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.
Ian Kinsler’s homer in the eighth got the Padres to within a run, but Will Smith retired the Padres in order in the ninth inning.
