Padres owners Ron Fowler and Peter Seidler interviewed Ron Washington on Thursday, a day after they did so with Jayce Tingler.
This was the first time Fowler and Seidler sat down with any of the candidates for the Padres manager job. They had dinner with both.
General Manager A.J. Preller and members of his staff conducted the first round of formal interviews with seven candidates vying to replace the fired Andy Green. Tingler and Washington were the only two brought to San Diego for a meeting with ownership.
This is Preller’s hire, and he has effectively been put on notice that his own job hangs in the balance of how the new manager fares.
