The Padres faced their divisional foes for the first time this spring, outlasting the Dodgers in a nearly scoreless match before escaping with a 2-1 victory at Peoria Stadium.
Notable starters on either side got the day off, including Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado for the Padres, as well as Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger for Los Angeles.
Saturday’s matchup was tied 0-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Gosuke Katoh hit a two-RBI single into left field, scoring both Pedro Florimon and Patrick Kivlehan for the 2-0 lead.
