As most coaches do, Jayce Tingler managed games in his head long before General Manager A.J. Preller tapped him as the Padres’ next skipper. Landing the actual job allowed him to start playing with a big league lineup for the first time with some real meaning behind the projection.
Before Preller got to work, that is.
“I’ve put things on the board,” Tingler said Wednesday afternoon at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. “I did it last week, and then all of the sudden here came another player or two. Obviously, I play things out.
