Padres notes: Third-rounder Hudson Head receives record $3 million bonus

The Padres and third-round pick Hudson Head agreed to a $3 million signing bonus, the Union-Tribune confirmed. MLB.com’s Jim Callis first reported the figure, the highest ever for a third-round selection.

“I’m very excited,” Head said while meeting with media during Tuesday’s tour of Petco Park. “I’ve dreamed about this since I was 10 or 11 years old. It’s been a fun day, a fun experience.”

That experience included taking batting practice pitches from Padres manager Andy Green as advisor Scott Boras, Hunter Renfroe and Ian Kinsler and several members of the Padres front office looked on.
