The Padres’ future took a couple hop-steps toward getting back to his present on Saturday.
Prior to the Padres game against the Dodgers, shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. played catch for the first time since straining his left hamstring six days earlier making a stretch trying to catch a throw to second base.
“He’s feeling good,” manager Andy Green said. “All things considered, he’s in a really good spot right now. We’re hoping for a short … time frame to his return as opposed to a long one, and he’s feeling pretty good right now.”
Tatis worked up to throwing hard and stepping into his throws to infield coach Damion Easley, who was about 90 feet away.
