Padres notes: Tatis’ slide, Erlin’s commute, Hosmer’s stitches

Fernando Tatis Jr. singled in the third inning Sunday, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, tied for the longest active streak in the majors with the Rockies’ Trevor Story. He had a would-be double taken away on a nice play by Yasiel Puig in the fifth inning, nearly saved Joey Lucchesi of his lone run in the second inning and started the game-ending double play to secure a 4-3 win.

Yet the most impressive thing Tatis did Sunday may have been the out he made in the third inning, when a replay review from New York needed 3 minutes and 12 seconds to make sure his head-first slide did not get around Reds second baseman Jose Peraza’s tag.
