Fernando Tatis was emphatic.
“I got pushed off,” he said.
But then, because he understands things turned out OK in a 9-3 victory over the Rockies on Thursday night and that there was another game the next day, he added, “Oh well.”
This was after just his second steal attempt (both unsuccessful) since July 13 ended with him beating the throw but having his hand forced off the bag by second baseman Ryan McMahon’s foot.
It was 22 games ago — 27 times on first base — that Tatis stole his 14th base of the season
Since then, pitchers have been throwing to first base more often to keep him closer and being diligent about going to home quicker in order to deter Tatis from stealing.
