Padres notes: Tatis, Abrams scares; 20-20 in ’19; Naylor’s celebration; Urias’ contribution

Petco Park went quiet for a few moments as Fernando Tatis Jr. lay face down sprawled across the third base bag Friday night, his left arm underneath him.

The 20-year-old shortstop, who seemingly every game takes another step toward running away with the National League Rookie of the Year race, stumbled entering his head-first slide and got the arm caught beneath his midsection.

Tatis eventually got up and remained in the game. That was after manager Andy Green and assistant athletic trainer Michael Salazar had run across the diamond to check on him.

“Made my heart stop,” Green said after the Padres’ 7-1 victory over the Rockies at Petco Park.
