PEORIA, Ariz. —
Gabriel Arias played two games at second base at high Single-A Lake Elsinore, 10 games at third base and 104 at shortstop. The Padres certainly don’t expect to need the 19-year-old Venezuelan there anytime soon, but they also aren’t in a hurry to move Arias off Fernando Tatis Jr.’s position.
Thus, new Padres manager Jayce Tingler said Tuesday that Arias will work predominantly at shortstop, especially early in the Cactus League schedule as the projected starters ease their way into game action and early in certain other games.
