Padres notes: Runs after walks; flight delay; Martini arrives; Myers starts

SAN FRANCISCO —

Padres pitchers don’t walk batters very often.

But when they do, those batters often score.

Even with eight walks Wednesday, Padres pitchers have walked just 7.3 percent of the batters they have faced this season. That’s the second-lowest rate in the majors behind the Dodgers. Padres relievers’ walk rate of 7.7 percent is lowest among major league bullpens.

That’s good. What’s not good is how many of those batters who walked ended up scoring — 26 of 76 batters (34.2 percent) since the All-Star break by starters; 19 of 59 (32.2 percent) by relievers.
