Padres notes: Richards’ rehab is over; Strahm keeps slaying lefties; Mejias-Brean’s first start

Garrett Richards could be back in the Padres rotation next week in Milwaukee.

“I’m anticipating playing this year,” Richards said Wednesday afternoon. “That’s been my goal the whole time.”

All that is known for sure is that the rehab assignment portion of Richards’ comeback from last Tommy John surgery a little more than 13 months ago is complete. He will throw a bullpen session in Colorado on Saturday and could start as soon as Tuesday in Milwaukee.

“We want him to get through (the bullpen) before we announce his next step,” manager Andy Green said. “… If everything goes well, we look forward to the next step.
