Cal Quantrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. grew up around baseball being played at the highest level, their fathers both having long major league careers.
Both Padres rookies have a presence — even a prescience — that belies their age and experience level.
In different ways and to different extents, they have shown the ability to adjust quickly, the hallmark of a successful major league player.
The 24-year-old Quantrill, however, is in awe of the 20-year-old Tatis.
“I don’t think it came as easily for me as it did for him,” Quantrill said with a chuckle.
