PEORIA, Ariz. —
Those who follow the Padres have become somewhat accustomed to minor league prospects speeding through the system to make their major league debuts.
But it isn’t unusual for a player — even a first-round pick — to not have an at-bat above Double-A more than three seasons after he was drafted.
“Not everybody gets to the big leagues like (Fernando) Tatis,” Padres associate manager Skip Schumaker said. “Everyone is different.”
Hudson Potts, the Padres’ second selection (24th overall) in 2016 and currently their fifth-ranked position prospect, is in his second major league camp but hasn’t quite torn up the minor leagues just yet.
