Padres notes: Paddack’s prescience; Yates’ velocity; Warren’s comfort

PHOENIX —

The willingness and prescience involved in Chris Paddack using his curve is no small development.

Sneaking in his third-best pitch here and there Friday night was a big step in Paddack’s march toward being what he expects to be.

With his fastball far more compliant than his last start and his change-up back to prompting twisted-up misses, Paddack also mixed in more curve balls during his 5 1/3 innings at the start of Friday’s 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks..

“At this level, we have reports on hitters, they have report on us,” Paddack said after allowing one run and three hits, walking one and striking out five.
