Padres notes: Mejia begins rehab for knee, bat; Hedges hopes this adjustments catches; H-M-R, homers alone can’t carry Padres

Catcher Francisco Mejia homered Tuesday night in the first at-bat for Triple-A El Paso.

It was a good way to start a rehab assignment that is officially for the purpose of working back from a sprained left knee but also with the intention of his getting his hitting right.

“We’ll get him some consistent at-bats throughout the rehab assignment,” Padres manager Andy Green said. “How long that rehab assignment lasts will be dictated first and foremost by how his knee feels — and then also when he finds his timing as well.”

Mejia went on the injured list May 11 after being bothered by the knee sprain to varying degrees for a few weeks.
