Padres notes: Margevicius returns for coverage; Martini claimed for on-base ability

Left-hander Nick Margevicius is back with the Padres, because they needed him and perhaps because he got better.

“We brought Nick Margevicius to solidify the pitching group to make sure we had enough coverage going into today,” manager Andy Green said before Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers. “We’ll see how the game plays out. If he’s needed for length, then he’ll be out there throwing a lot of innings.”

The rookie, who started 12 games for the Padres earlier this season, was recalled from Double-A Amarillo on Wednesday. To make room on the 25-man roster, catcher Austin Allen was optioned to Triple-A El Paso.
