ATLANTA —
There is a shirt many Padres players wear that originates from the strength and conditioning staff.
On the front is the interlocking SD logo with barbells poking out from either side bent down by weights at the end. On the back are varying messages.
The back of Nick Margevicius’ shirt reads:
PROVE IT
He wears it every day he is at the ballpark. Sometimes it’s the only shirt he has on. Sometimes it is under a hoodie or other sweatshirt.
But it is there every day, and it is an appropriate message to be carried on the back of the 22-year-old left-hander with the slowest average fastball of any qualifying major league starting pitcher.
