DENVER —
Manny Machado’s 30th homer of the season got the Padres to within a run of the Rockies in the eighth inning Saturday, put him in rare company and affirmed Machado’s high level of confidence in himself.
“Yeah, I mean it’s a big, big accomplishment,” he said after the Padres’ 11-10 loss at Coors Field. “But at the end of the day, I already knew what numbers I was going to put up.”
The home run was the 205th of Machado’s career and gave him his fifth straight 30-homer season. He joined Nolan Arenado, Nelson Cruz and Edwin Encarnacion as the only players in the majors to have reached that mark every year since 2015.
