PEORIA, Ariz. —
MacKenzie Gore threw eight pitches.
The 21-year-old threw every one of his four pitches, the 95 mph fastball and the curve and slider and change-up. All of them landed at least once for a strike.
The left-hander, considered by virtually all who consider such things to be the top pitching prospect in baseball, faced major league hitters Thursday for the first time and got them all out. Kyle Seager grounded out to first base, Austin Nola fouled out and Collin Cowgill grounded out to third.
That was it. The seventh inning of a 3-1 victory over the Mariners was finished.
