Padres notes: Machado’s RISPy mindset; Quantrill, round three; Kinsler’s upswing

Manny Machado has a .314 career batting average with runners in scoring position, ranking him 20th in the majors since the start of the 2012 season.

His .731 slugging percentage with the bases loaded ranks ninth. His nine grand slams are more than anyone else.

Part of what made Machado smile and even point and yell as he rounded first base following his grand slam in Monday night’s 8-2 Padres victory over the Phillies was that he had only one hit in his previous 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position and was 0-for-3 this season with the bases loaded.
