More than two years after the big league debut of Franchy Cordero, the Padres remain enamored with his unique blend of speed, power and budding patience. The ceiling is indeed considerable, but the organization will have to wait another year to know exactly what it truly has in the 25-year-old center fielder.
On the injured list initially with a right elbow sprain, Cordero pulled his left quad while on a rehab assignment in mid-June, an injury that continues to hold him back. He restarted his rehab assignment in late August at high Single-A Lake Elsinore, but is again in San Diego because his left leg “just doesn’t feel as explosive as the other leg,” Padres manager Andy Green said.
