Padres notes: Fernando Tatis Jr. stars, makes history while toughing it out

LOS ANGELES —

Shortly before Sunday’s game, the Dodgers lined up their five All-Stars and manager Dave Roberts on the third base line and presented them with the uniforms they will wear Tuesday in Cleveland.

By that time, the Padres had only known for about 20 minutes that their All-Star shortstop would be able to play in the series finale at Dodger Stadium.

Oh, wait. That’s right.

Fernando Tatis Jr. isn’t an All-Star.

He just plays one when it counts.

The 20-year-old led off the Padres’ 5-3 victory with his 13th home run of the season and added a three-run homer four innings later and in between made a diving play at shortstop that required yet another replay review to accurately assess his feat.
